14. Spheroidality
A. Replace linear parts or flat surfaces with curved ones; replace cubical shapes with spherical shapes.
Example:
• Use arches or domes for strength in architecture.
B. Use rollers, balls, or spirals.
Example:
• Spiral gear (Nautilus) produces continuous resistance for weight lifting.
• Ball point and roller point pens for smooth ink distribution.
C. Replace a linear motion with rotating movement; utilize a centrifugal force.
Example:
• Computer mouse utilized ball construction to transfer linear two-axis motion into vector motion.
• Replace wringing clothes to remove water with spinning clothes in a washing machine.
• Use spherical casters instead of cylindrical wheel to move furniture.
