20. Continuity of a Useful action
A. Carry out an action continuously (i.e., without pauses), where all parts of an object operate at full capacity.
Example:
• Flywheel (or hydraulic system) stores energy when a vehicle stops, so the motor can keep running at optimum power.
• Run the bottleneck operations in a factory continuously, to reach the optimum pace.
• A drill with cutting edges which permits cutting in forward and reverse directions.
B. Remove idle and intermediate motions.
Example:
• Print during the return of a printer carriage--dot matrix, daisy wheel printers, or ink jet printers.
